Araea Rachel Cherry. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Araea Rachel Cherry on Aug. 23, 2005. Rachel is survived by her life- partner, North E. West, a son, David Cherry, Washington D.C., a daughter and son-in-law Meryl Cherry Thornton and Mark Thornton, and two grandsons, Liam and Hayden Thornton from Beaverton, Ore.; two-step daughters and a step son-in-law, Alyson West Lunetta, Ben Lunetta, and Amanda Nell West, a granddaughter, Savannah Rose Lunetta, her mother, Jessie Wilson, three sisters, Mary Beth Malone, Wendy Tune, Becky Wilson, and Rachel's many friends, clients and students.
Rachel, a graduate of the Art Therapy Psychology Department at Notre Dame de Namure was an adjunct faculty member in the department where she taught trauma and art therapy and domestic violence. She was a certified art therapist and a licensed marriage and family therapist. After post masters training at the Trauma Recovery Institute in West Virginia and The Meadows in Arizona Rachel was certified as a traumatologist. She had a private practice in Belmont and consulted about trauma with therapists throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Former family art therapy program director at the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention in San Mateo County. Rachel will be buried in her native home of Old Hickory, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at the Hiller Museum in San Carlos on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rachel's name to the Family and Children's Area of the Hiller Aviation Museum, 601 Skyway Road, San Carlos, Calif., 94070.
