The San Mateo Police Department has charged a 17-year-old local boy with attempted murder, as a result of a downtown stabbing over the weekend.
On Friday night, the suspect reportedly approached a group of youths on the 100 block of Railroad Ave. and began displaying gang signs.
The suspect then attempted to stab the first victim and missed, yet made contact with the second victim, according to Hugh Wilkins of the San Mateo Police Department.
The attack occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. But it did not end there. After stabbing the second victim, the suspect proceeded to run from the victims until he finally locked himself inside B Street Liquors where the proprietor called the Police.
Karen Pham, the proprietor of the family-owned store reported that the attack was extremely frightening. She said there were a gang of youths outside waiting for the suspect with rocks.
"I was numb all day afterwards," Pham reported.
Pham added that the suspect's father came into the store the following day and thanked them for saving his son's life.
Even though the youth is facing attempted murder charges in San Mateo Court, his father feared that if the proprietors had not intervened and called authorities his son would have been killed that night.
