Parkside Aquatic Park, Ryder Park, Seal Point Park, Shoreview Park and Washington Park will be shut down 6 p.m. July 4 in San Mateo to deter use of fireworks, which police are reminding are illegal in the city.
Lots will be barricaded and the parks will be patrolled. Police will also check on other parks as well. Most San Mateo city parks will undergo irrigation throughout the evening to prevent possible fires that may occur from potential illegal firework use and field lights will remain on, according to police.
All fireworks, including “safe and sane” ones and sparklers, are illegal in the city and police will take enforcement action and confiscate them and issue citations. Officers must witness the violation to enforce it, according to police, who added reporting fireworks with limited information makes it hard to locate and enforce.
