It’s very upsetting to hear that an elderly man in his 80s was attacked near Central Park. I live just down the street on Laurel Avenue and know him personally—he’s of Middle Eastern descent and truly one of the kindest gentlemen you could meet.
This appears to be a clear case of elder abuse, and it may even rise to the level of a hate crime. It’s difficult to understand how something like this could happen, especially in a neighborhood that has always felt safe and welcoming.
Needless to say, this was a shocking incident for our community. The good news is that he is expected to be released from the hospital today, and we can only hope for a full and speedy recovery.
