A Millbrae resident charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run for allegedly killing a woman in a fatal traffic collision in Burlingame pleaded not guilty April 8, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Joel Gilongos, 52, previously posted a $100,000 bail and retained a private attorney, Josh Bentley. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and will go to preliminary hearing May 22.
Gilongos allegedly hit and killed Arlene O’Campo, 61, of Daly City, in the early hours of March 11, according to the DA’s Office. Gilongos was allegedly speeding and making unsafe lane changes before running a red light and striking O’Campo, who was in the crosswalk. She died at the scene, according to the DA’s Office.
He allegedly then proceeded to drive to work, and was identified and arrested later that day, the DA’s Office said.
