Aria Luna Parra Rasine from Sequoia High School won first place in the high school category for an art contest celebrating organized labor hosted by Assemblymember Diane Papan, D-San Mateo, and San Mateo County Supervisor Lisa Gauthier. Emily Chen from Menlo-Atherton High School was first runner up. Esha Mittal from Design Tech High School was second runner up.
Sofie Khandelwal from Sandpiper Elementary won first place in the middle school category for the art contest. Melanie Cortes from Casa Circulo Cultural was first runner up. Carter Fisher from Woodland School was second runner up.
The theme for the contest was the role, presence and history of organized labor in San Mateo County. Each winning artist will have their artwork displayed at both offices of Assemblymember Papan and Supervisor Gauthier.
“This contest has been a wonderful opportunity to engage with our youth and celebrate the vital role of labor in shaping our communities,” said Gauthier. “The students’ artworks serve as a powerful reminder of the ongoing impact of organized labor and the importance of continuing to support workers’ rights and dignity.”
