Pinch-hitter Robby Derby delivered a go-ahead double in the bottom of the sixth to send Terra Nova to a 2-1 victory over Woodside in Pacifica. With the win, the Tigers earn a split in the two-game series in PAL Ocean Division baseball play.

With the game tied 1-all in the sixth, the Tigers (2-2 PAL Ocean, 7-4 overall) set the table with a two-out rally spurred by an infield error. Junior Trevor Snead followed with a single to center, then turned to Derby, who doubled to left to knock in junior Wesley McDougal with what proved to be the winning run.
Right-hander Aiden James locked up with sophomore Colby Fernandez to earn the win, improving his record to 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA. Fernandez took the hard-luck loss, recording a complete game while allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits and four walks, while matching his career-high 10 strikeouts.
James allowed one run on eight hits and three walks, while striking out two. The senior got some help from his defense in the fourth, when Woodside (2-2, 8-4) loaded the bases and tied it with a two-out single to left from junior Hunter Taylor, only to see the left fielder McDougal cut down the potential go-ahead run at the plate on the back end.
Junior shortstop Brody Finale paced Terra Nova with two hits, and senior catcher Joey Donati tabbed and RBI double in the third. Charlie Dalrymple and Andrew Ortiz paced the Wildcats with two hits apiece.
The win was critical to Terra Nova remaining in the top tier of the PAL Ocean Division standings even at this early stage of the season. A loss would have made the Tigers the first team in the eight-team division to lose three games. Instead, manager Jared Milch’s squad is tied for third place with Woodside, one game back of Half Moon Bay (3-1, 7-6) and Sacred Heart Prep (3-1, 9-4) tied atop the standings.
