Half Moon Bay 58, Santa Cruz 49
Gio Garduno-Martin scored 21 points, Levi Meighan added 13, and the Cougars (7-6) overcame an early 10-point deficit to win in non-league action at Santa Cruz (4-9).
The Cardinals opened on an 18-8 run, but senior Will Wimsett came off the bench to score two quick buckets in the second quarter as HMB finished the half on a 13-0 run to take the lead into the locker room.
Owen Perez added 10 points for the Cougars.

Sacred Heart Prep (6-5) returned to the court for its first game of 2026, claiming a 69-58 non-league win at Head-Royce-Oakland (7-8).
Oceana (4-9) dropped his fifth straight 67-30 at home against Alhambra (12-3).
Summit Shasta (8-6) fell 56-43 against a Pinewood team (10-2) that opened on a 20-3 run in Los Altos Hills.
Menlo’s Anika Shah poured in 18 points Saturday in a non-league home win against Homestead.

Menlo 46, Homestead 44
After trailing by eight at the half, the Lady Knights (9-2) won the third quarter 16-7 and held on for the non-league home win over Homestead-Cupertino (9-4).
Menlo sophomore Anika Shah hit four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 18 points, while sophomore Lisi Mahe added nine points and junior Ava Allen totaled seven. Homestead junior Katie Tal led all scorers with 19 points.
Notre Dame-Belmont 57, Sacred Heart Prep 28
The Tigers (11-0) finished off their undefeated run through the non-league preseason, gunning past Sacred Heart Prep (2-7) at McGanney Sports Center. Leading 16-12 after the first quarter, NDB finished the half on a 20-5 run.
With the win, NDB matches its fast start from last season, when the team also opened the season on an 11-game winning streak. The Tigers played one more non-league preseason game in 2024-25, and fell short of taking an unbeaten record into West Bay Athletic League play by falling to Harker in game No. 12 of the year.
The Tigers open WBAL Foothill Division play Tuesday night at home against reigning 12-time league champion Pinewood.

Summit Shasta (7-6) suffered its first home loss in over a month, falling in non-league action 42-31 to Lowell-SF (9-6).
Woodside (7-3) won its fourth straight, rolling 35-16 at Lincoln-San Jose (1-9).
Sequoia (7-5) dropped its final non-league preseason warmup at home 60-39 to Piedmont Hills-San Jose (9-4).

Boys’ basketball
Mitty 70, Serra 43
The Padres (0-2 WCAL, 8-4 overall) dropped their second straight to open West Catholic Athletic League play at Mitty (2-0, 8-4). It marks the second straight year Serra has fallen to the Monarchs in the opening week of league play. Last year, the two team spilt the season series 1-1.
Serra led only briefly in the opening minutes Saturday, and trailed 7-6 when Mitty went on an 17-point run spanning into the second quarter. The Padres narrowed it to 42-31 in the third quarter, but the Monarchs responded with a 19-0 run.
Menlo-Atherton 61, Carlmont 48
The sharpshooting Bears (2-0 PAL Bay, 9-3 overall) drained eight 3-pointers to earn their third straight win, and their second straight to open PAL Bay Division play, at Carlmont (0-2, 5-7). Senior guard Jacob Sutton hit four 3s en route to a game-high 17 points, while senior Luca Auer added 16 points and senior Jerry Williams 11 for M-A. The Scots were paced by junior Jordan Rice’s 14 points.
Woodside 71, San Mateo 44

The Wildcats (2-0 PAL Ocean, 5-7 overall) erupted for a 27-7 run in the second quarter to cap of a Friday night quad with a runaway win at San Mateo (0-2, 7-7). Senior guard Luke Grech paced Woodside with 13 points, junior Marco Antonino added 12 and senior Christian Struss scored 11, as the trio combined for eight of the Wildcats’ 11 3-pointers. Senior Bryan Ehlerman paced the Bearcats with 15 points, while senior Byron Ehlerman added 12.
Burlingame 46, Jefferson 34
The Panthers (2-0 PAL Bay, 10-3 overall) sped things up in the second quarter, after leading just 6-4 after the first, to win at home over Jefferson (0-2, 5-8). Burlingame responded with an 18-9 run in the second quarter. Burlingame’s 6-4 sophomore Lucca Maher paced all scorers with 13 points. Raymond Villar and Jayden Peralta shared the Grizzlies’ team-high with seven points apiece.
El Camino 69, Mills 52
The Colts (1-1 PAL Ocean, 6-7 overall) dialed in after the break, scoring 44 points in the second half at home to earn their first PAL Ocean Division win of the year against Mills (1-1, 3-9). Senior forward Markson Jacques scored a game-high 22 points for El Camino, while junior guard Eli Ledesma added 15. Junior guard Brayden Beliso paced the Vikings with 12 points.
South City 52, Oceana 48
The Warriors (2-0 PAL Ocean, 6-7 overall) overcame a second-half surge by Oceana (0-2, 3-8), to win it at home. Senior forward Thomas Miller led South City with 13 points, and senior Luke Burton added 10. Oceana junior Catcher Ashkinos led all scorers with 19 points, and senior Dexter Miller finished with 10.
North Valley Baptist 51, Nueva 49
Nueva (2-8) took a 41-39 lead into the fourth quarter, but couldn’t cool off red-hot Ben Simsiman over the final eight minutes at North Valley Baptist-Santa Clara (4-1). The sophomore finished with a career-high 29 points, shooting 10 of 17 from the field, including three 3-pointers, while going a perfect 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Nueva junior Aidin Salimi scored a team-high 18 points, while senior Evan Wang added 14.

Crystal (10-2) won its fourth straight 67-40 in a non-league home game against Basis Independent-San Jose (3-7).
Sequoia (1-1 PAL Bay, 6-7 overall) earned its first PAL Bay Division win of the season 54-52 at home against Terra Nova (0-1, 7-6).
Girls’ basketball
San Mateo 55, Mills 32
The Bearcats (1-1 PAL Bay, 11-3 overall) earned their first PAL Bay Division win since 2011-12, rolling at home against Mills (0-2, 4-6). San Mateo took a 33-22 lead into the fourth quarter, and finished on a 22-10 run over the last eight minutes.
Junior guard Bella Fong enjoyed a big night, scoring a game-high 25 points, including an 8-for-10 clip from the free-throw line. Mills was paced by senior Amaya Moore’s nine points.
Menlo-Atherton 43, Carlmont 33
The Bears (2-0 PAL Bay, 10-2 overall) used a 15-1 third-quarter run to swing ahead for the win at Carlmont (0-2, 9-5). Lita Fakapelea led M-A with a game-high 15 points, and senior Luisa Tava added 13. Carlmont sophomores Mia Masukawa and London Greene shared the team-high with 10 points apiece.
Terra Nova 55, El Camino 22
Senior guard Gabby Dyogi scored a game-high 14 points, and senior Danielle Dibble hit three 3-pointers as the Tigers (2-0 PAL Ocean, 6-3 overall) rolled to the win at El Camino (0-2, 3-10). Junior guard Reese Kelley added 10 points for Terra Nova. The Lady Colts were paced by sophomore Lhian Dela Cruz’s eight points.
Sequoia 57, Oceana 19
Sophomore Olivia Macuga led the way with 23 points as the Ravens (1-1 PAL Ocean, 7-4 overall) won all four quarters for the second straight game to win it at home against Oceana (0-2, 0-8). Macuga and junior Ally Petit each hit three 3-pointers. Petit finished with nine points. Oceana junior Jas Macutay scored a game-high nine points.
Woodside 46, Jefferson 36
Sophomore sharpshooter Lyla Rich drilled seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points to lead the Wildcats (2-0 PAL Ocean, 6-3 overall) to their fourth straight win at home against South City (0-2, 7-6). Jefferson senior Nia Hicks scored a team-high 12 points.
Burlingame 48, Westmoor 35
The Panthers (2-0 PAL Ocean, 7-5 overall) rode the hot hand of senior Addie Uhrich to the home win over Westmoor (1-1, 6-7). Uhrich scored a game-high 19 points, while senior Haleh Ansari added 17 for Burlingame. Westmoor was paced by senior Kiana Chavez’s 16 points.
Capuchino 51, South City 39
The Lady Mustangs (2-0 PAL Ocean, 9-2 overall) won their sixth straight by winning all four quarters at South City (0-2, 7-7). Cap sophomore Lorelai Shinn led all scorers with 12 points, while senior Kaitlyn Staff added 10. South City junior Kylee Chiva scored a team-high 11 points.

Crystal (6-2) finished out its non-league preseason slate with a 58-7 home win over Cristo Rey-San Jose (3-4).
