Niko Selianitis, El Camino boys’ wrestling. The sophomore won the 106-lb title at the Webber Lawson Memorial Tournament hosted by Fremont-Sunnyvale. Ranked No. 49 in the state at 106 by The California Wrestler, Selianitis went 4-0 in winning the championship. He opened with a 15-0 technical fall in the first round, followed by a second-round pin. In a wild semifinal match, Selianitis outlasted Aptos’ Dominic Cabot, 18-11. In the championship match, he beat Alex Salas of Matilda Torres-Madera County, 7-3. Salas was ranked No. 35 in the Dec. 12 rankings.
Sophia Darer, Terra Nova girls’ wrestling. The reigning CCS champion in the 110-pound division, Darer moved up to 115s last Friday at the Webber Lawson Girls Varsity Tournament. The junior took second place in the bracket, wrestling to a 4-1 record on the day. She earned wins over Sobrato’s Thandie Butler, Sacred Heart Cathedral’s Winnie O’Callaghan, Fremont-Sunnyvale’s Lillian Fonseca and Alisal’s Briana Ochoa. She then fell in the finals to Grace M. Davis senior Jazmine Turner.
Wyatt Von Blanco, Serra boys’ basketball. The junior guard earned all-tournament honors as the Padres finished third in the Chris Vonture tournament hosted by De La Salle. In the third-place game, a 54-52 win over Ygnacio Valley, Von Blanco scored a team-leading 16 points. During the three-game tournament, Blanco total 32 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and eight steals.
Kate Baron, Sacred Heart Prep girls’ basketball. The junior guard earned tournament MVP honors after she helped lead the Gators to the title of the King’s Academy tournament. She opened with a 19-point effort in a 47-38 win over Fremont-Sunnyvale. In the semifinals, a 46-33 win over Scotts Valley, she scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. But she saved her best for last, pouring in 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting in a 48-32 win over host King’s Academy.
Katheryn Abramenko, Half Moon Bay girls’ wrestling. Abramenko finished fourth at in the 135-pound weight class at the Webber Lawson Memorial Tournament. Abramenko went 4-2 for the tournament, winning her first two matches by pin — 23 seconds in the first round and 1:04 in the second round. In the quarterfinals she won by decision, 10-4 before being pinned in the semifinals by eventual champion Tamara Grace of Gilroy. Abramenko won her first consolation round match with a pin at 1:42, but lost by pin in the third-place match.
Lexi Carson, Hillsdale girls’ basketball. The senior wing had a strong week that saw the Knights’ win a pair of games, but also suffer their first loss of the season. Carson opened the week with a 17-point performance in a 63-37 win over El Camino. She followed that with a team-high 16 points in a 62-32 win over Summit Shasta Friday and was the leading scorer again Saturday, with 12 points in a 59-41 loss to Lick Wilmerding-SF.

Catalina Kohler, Hillsdale girls’ wrestling. After a first-round bye, Kohler went 3-1 in the 140-pound division at the Webber Lawson Girls Varsity Tournament, taking second place overall. The senior earned wins over Alisal’s Angelina Juarez, Lincoln-Stockton’s Jenille Shaw and Mitty’s Aishi Vjayaraghav. She then fell in the finals to Gilroy freshman Sarai Cortez.
Rohan Dalal, Crystal boys’ soccer. The senior scored one of the most emotional goals of the Gryphons’ young season in last Thursday’s 1-0 win over Hillsdale. In the pouring down rain, the two teams played scoreless soccer for 73 minutes until Dalal happily gathered a turnover on Hillsdale’s back rank. He was already in step toward the goal when the ball sprung free, setting up a classic 1-v-1 that saw him draw out the keeper and knock it in, then turn and run toward the northwest corner for a celebration knee slide in front of a large contingent of Crystal fans.
Ruiqi Liu and Karen Xin, Menlo girls’ basketball. With the Lady Knights off to an 8-0 start, their two senior team captains have been magnificent. Liu scored in double figures in each of Menlo’s three wins last week, including matching her season-high with 21 points in a 57-36 win over Los Altos, and notching a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 48-40 win over Evergreen Valley. Xin also scored in double figures in all three games, as she has in all eight of Menlo’s games this season; she’s averaging 17.1 points per game. What was different was how she scored the points, converting 14 3-points through those three wins. She also enjoyed her three best assist totals of the year, including a season-high five against Los Altos.
Emi Lo, Aragon girls’ soccer. The sophomore midfielder has been key in the Dons’ 4-1 start to the season. She notched an assist in the Dons’ 3-2 loss to Urban, but she followed that with three goals in two game. Her curling free kick into the upper left corner of the net in a 1-0 win over Menlo. She then scored both goals in Aragon’s 2-1 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Sophia Halterman, Half Moon Bay girls’ wrestling. The sophomore took runner-up in the 190-pound division at the Webber Lawson Girls Varsity Tournament last Friday at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. She posted a 3-1 record on the day with wins over Willow Glen’s Crystal Perez, Ukiah’s Hazel Nagata-Rampata and Pittsburg Senior’s Cecilia Chatman. She then fell in the finals to San Benito senior Golda Demby.
Asher Meighen and Levi Meighen, Half Moon Bay boys’ basketball. The Meighen brothers were quite a splash at the Burlingame Lions Tournament, leading the Cougars to their first tourney title in the annual early-season classic since 2014. The older of the two, senior Asher Meighen, earned tournament MVP honors after a big performance in the finals, a 77-62 win over Priory, by recording a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The younger Levi Meighen, a sophomore, was nails down the stretch though, giving HMB the lead back in the fourth quarter with a bucket off an offensive rebound. He finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, including 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist in the fourth quarter.
