Congratulations to Chief Justice John Roberts, who responded to importuning Senators by letting Justice Samuel Alito respond for himself. Justice Alito’s reply on Wednesday: He has “an obligation to sit” on cases under the Supreme Court’s code of conduct.

Sens. Dick Durbin and Sheldon Whitehouse, the bully boys of the Judiciary Committee, wrote the Chief Justice last week demanding a meeting and that Justice Alito recuse himself from hearing cases related to the 2020 election or Donald Trump.

Hey folks, I do agree that the Alito debacle doesn't quite rise to the level of 'scandal' requiring recusal, HOWEVER, why do we not hear more noise about a justice who's wife was interviewed as a 'person of interest' regarding the Jan 6 revolt?????

If that isn't meeting what a reasonable person would see as a totally compromising situation then I don't know what is!!!

Hey Mike - could it be because there was no there, there?

Rel

No, Dirk, there is a there, there. That is Mike's point. Justice Thomas wife had an active role in undermining the votes of the people. Justice Thomas should recuse himself. Better yet, he should retire. He has been an embarrassment to the court for most of his career.

Dirk van Ulden

Rel - if politicians and judges need to retire because of family member activities, most of DC would have to go home. Biden is a prime example and let's not forget Carter's brother, as in Billy Beer. BTW, I assume you are not married because most spouses are allowed freedom of expression in the US. That may not be the case for you.

Rel

Yeah Dirk, your argument holds no water. Most spouses do not actively participate in the overthrow of the people's voice by their votes. The mere appearance of impropriety is the standard and Justice Thomas should, for once, step aside as he hardly could ever say he didn't have any arm's length interest.
