Editor,
April 25 saw the third attempted assassination of President Trump in less than two years.
Two nights before, erstwhile comedian Jimmy Kimmel said Melania Trump had a “glow like an expectant widow.”
U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries said this month “we are in an era of maximum warfare everywhere all the time.” Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said, “heads need to roll within the administration.” California Sen. Alex Padilla wrote “people are DYING because of fear and terror caused by the Trump administration.” U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Mr. Trump is making the country look like a “fascist state.” U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver said, “We are at war.” U.S. Rep. Alyanna Pressley said “we’ll see you in the streets.” Our own California Sen. Adam Schiff, who apparently still is the only one who has seen all the Russia collusion evidence against Mr. Trump, said the president is “using the dictator playbook.”
Hours after the release of the would-be assassin’s manifesto calling for the elimination of Mr. Trump and cabinet members, Barack Obama said there was no apparent motivation.
President Trump can at times have the subtlety of a cruise missile, but he has never called for the death of a political opponent. Rather than spend their time creating solutions, these opposition “leaders” instead produce this bombast, thus lowering our political discourse and normalizing violence.
For those who do not believe there is a connection between this violent rhetoric and violence, you have an open invitation to my monthly poker game. Transportation provided free of charge.

OK, John, invite me to your monthly poker game. You decry the Democrats bombast when we are treated daily to Trump's bombast and his administration's legal attempts to indict every political opponent who speaks out against him. You say Trump has never called for the death of a political opponent yet on April 7, 2026, Trump stated on social media that a "whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again" if Iran did not meet his deadline to end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Why stop at a single opponent when one can wipe out a whole civilization?
