I want to echo a few of the letters to the editor regarding SB79. I would agree with most of what was said by Dennis Bogusz and Neil Wild (Scott Weiner a moron? Maybe just blind to the unintended consequences but a very typical politician). I would argue that not more than 10% to 20% of residents along the transit corridor actually use Caltrain or Bart to commute. (There is probably a survey somewhere.)
What happened to coherent city planning, building codes, city planning commissions along with all the other local, county and national requirements. One-and-a-half parking stalls per unit used to be the requirement for multifamily housing. Residents could also add their 2 cents at planning meetings.
The letter correctly states that corporate real estate developers make more money from SB79. They do not worry about residents or locals who get to endure the congestion and parking problems. I know from a past employment with a developer. It’s the bottom line baby! Look everyone is entitled to turn a profit, but this is out of control. A ballot initiative is needed to take this law (for which we were unable to vote on) off the books.
