Editor,

It should be overwhelmingly obvious by now that the only reason Republicans want to limit certain voters’ ability to exercise their constitutional rights, is for themselves to stay in power. That power play has nothing to do with voter fraud or what they may believe is best for the country. It has everything to do with their own frantic clinging to power, against the steadily increasing popular vote against their often anti-American, outdated policies. There is a growing discrepancy between Republican voters and their representatives in Congress, whose blind obstructionism against anything and everything Democratic, has become their modus operandi. Against such fanatic resistance, it is a miracle if anything gets done — even the most obvious desires of the vast majority of the population, like better gun control and more fair and open elections, are being obstructed. Imagine being against better background checks to weed out those who time and again prove that they should never be allowed anywhere near firearms! How insane and inconsiderate. And this is not all Trump’s fault. As soon as President Obama was inaugurated, top Republicans got together and conspired to make sure that he wouldn’t be able to do anything, not even projects that they themselves used to be in favor of! That’s American? That’s patriotism, promoting American interests, here and abroad? Cooperative spirit in line with the US Constitution? Yeah, right! How shallow and dishonest — not to mention un-American and unpatriotic!

Jorg,

Thanks for the "Corn Pop". You are always good for a laugh. Especially when I think of you as a scientist. It brings Gene Wilder's bug eyes in Young Frankenstein to mind. ROTFLMAO

Ray Fowler

Hey, Wilfredo!

Today's LTE can best be described as pure ackamarackus...

Jorg

In what sense, Ray? As expected, you may disagree with me, - but what did I write that was incorrect ?

Ray Fowler

"Ah, Houston, we've had a problem..."

You see, there is a problem if you simply consult with an online dictionary. You may very likely come across an "incorrect" definition. If you don't understand the context and why ackamarackus is semantically the best word to describe today's LTE, there's nothing else I can do for you. Wait! How about if I substituted the word "rannygazoo" to describe the LTE... would that help?

All in good fun. However, I concur with Dirk when he said, "I have given up on discussing any of these issues with you."

Jorg

So, that’s all you can come up with, Ray? A fancy word you dug out from somewhere? Do you use it often, or only for special occasions where you can’t come up with anything more insightful or constructive?

Ray Fowler

Did you not see "All in good fun"? Did you not see my gun control comments this morning in response to your LTE?

But let me get this straight. The King of... dismissing others' comments as nonsense, unilaterally deciding others' comments have no value, refusing to respond to others' comments because doing so would be a waste of time, and scurrying away when unable to provide a coherent response... oops... almost forgot... and censors others' remarks... is now lecturing DJ readers about what is acceptable in the comments section?

In the words of Andy Dufresne, "How can you be so obtuse?"

Wilfred Fernandez Jr

Hehehe. You are a good man, Ray. Jorg is lucky you indulge his intellectual pecadillos.

Ray Fowler

Hey, Wilfredo...

I've been off the grid for a while. Yeah, I was hoping I would not have to use that Andy Dufresne line, but it totally fit the situation.

Like Dirk... I'm through.

Wilfred Fernandez Jr

With reason, Ray.

Jorg

Since none of the counter comments contains even a single counter argument, I take it as evidence that deep down you basically do agree with me, although it is so hard to admit it, and so easy instead to fall back on ad hominem and cheap shots, - a la Trump.

Dirk van Ulden

Jorg - I have given up on discussing any of these issues with you. You have not changed your tune for years and I don't expect any changes ever. Therefore, counter arguments with you are pointless.

Wilfred Fernandez Jr

Jorg,

Your side of politics is fond of saying my side wears tin foil hats. For the first time ever, I return the favor. My friend, you make unfounded and irrational assertions. Without your tinfoil hat, it is not possible make counter comments.

Jorg

Like what, Wil? Give me an example that directly contradict anything I wrote.

Ray Fowler

Give it up... you don't want to tangle with a Kodiak.

Jorg

Well, that figures, - no one could come up with a single specific example of where you believe I am wrong. Just a bunch of Trump-inspired rubbish. Not much of a surprise, though.

Ray Fowler

Thanks for proving my point...

Terence Y

Jorg, I’ll go ahead and answer your question. Everything in your letter is wrong. Other commenters may be too nice to say it directly to you, but since you’re a pal, I’m happy to say it. You're welcome!

Tafhdyd

Wilfred,

I would say that is too general a statement. Speaking from the left, I don’t say the right wears tinfoil hats, just the few that actually do. One of which is a regular on these posts 😀.

Wilfred Fernandez Jr

Tafhdyd,

My dear friend. I was not referring to you. You may not be aware, I have interacted online since the creation of I.R.C.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat

Phrases and opinions have not changed much in all these decades. While you and I don't always see things the same, you are cogent in defending your positions. I'm sure Jorg has the capacity to do the same. If it is demanded of him. To close, do not think that my adherence to propriety disallows candor in equal measure. Now, I think I will partake of some libation to honor your brightening my evening.

Wilfred Fernandez Jr

Jorg,

First understand what I have already written, then look up logical fallacies. Once you understand the problems with the assertions you make, we can enjoy civil discourse. Otherwise there is no point. My good sir, you have opinions supported by nothing. As I have previously made clear, I don't fools and I choose not to argue with fellow patriots. How you and I interact is up to you.

Another piece of JUNC (Jorg’s Utter Nonsense Claptrap), which surprisingly, only contains 4 exclamation points (and not all placed in their correct locations, IMHO). Sorry, Jorg! The NYT is not in need of any more biased or TDS-infected reporters, so there’s no need to continually audition! Wow, it does feel good to punch out those exclamation points. Well, not really, but it’s better than using all caps.

Tafhdyd

If it isn't Terence, the one that claims he only uses personal attacks after they are used against him. Please show us where your name is mentioned in the LTE.

Terence Y

Hey, it’s my buddy, Taffy. Please identify instance(s) in my comment which you believe are personal attacks against my buddy, Jorg. Thanks in advance.

Dirk van Ulden

Jorg is the poster child for ignorance - a deliberate choice to remain uninformed.

Ray Fowler

There is something "exposed" in this LTE, but it's not Republican objectives...

Ray Fowler

Trying to keep the focus on positions not personalities...

It's interesting. In the LTE, if you just swap the word "Democrat" for "Republican" and similarly adjust the names of the presidents mentioned in the letter, you'd have what is actually happening in DC.

The topic of gun control is featured in the LTE... OK.

Which US president said, "I believe in background checks at gun shows or anywhere to make sure that guns don’t get in the hands of people that shouldn’t have them"?

George W. Bush

Over and over again, Democratic Party leaders push gun control after tragedies like Atlanta and Boulder, but they are really pushing the confiscation of firearms. Remember, Beto? He inflates numbers, then he ties gun violence to... wait for it... white supremacy. Dems made the shootings in Atlanta about race without any evidence to support that narrative.

As an aside, the increase in anti-Asian violence nationwide is very real and deserves action, now. That action should be moving forward as we address gun violence as a separate matter.
