In his letter “Roe v. Wade should be overturned” in the Aug. 29 edition of the Daily Journal, Ross Foti claims, without any evidence, that Roe v. Wade supporters have all had, or have been responsible for, abortions themselves and are just trying to assuage their guilt. I present myself as a counter-example: I support abortion rights without ever having been associated with an abortion. I’m sure this true of many others who care about access to safe and legal abortion procedures.
Ross also claims to know the mind of the Creator who, of course, supports Ross’ position. Again, this seems to be a claim without any evidence. First, there is neither prohibition nor even mention of abortion in the Bible. Second, the Creator’s purported concern with abortion seems completely at odds to her indifference to the 20 percent of pregnancies terminated by miscarriage in the United States and death of 11 million children worldwide each year. I guess one can never know the mind of the Creator after all. Right Ross?
