There is an army of unpaid, citizen volunteers gathering signatures throughout the city of San Mateo for a referendum petition that could result in a ballot measure regarding the Bay Meadows development. It would give all registered voters in the city a chance to exercise their Constitutional right to decide what will happen to the last major piece of open space in the city.
The People’s Army wishes to thank those competitive, paid, professional signature gatherers who have, by some miraculous coincidence, located their tables right next to those of the People’s Army and are helping them draw large crowds willing to sign the referendum petitions. These paid professionals appear to be connected to a Public Affairs Co. which, we have been told, represents the Bay Meadows Land Development Company.
This childish tactic, similar to their previous paid, professional effort which allegedly gathered 10,000 signatures; signatures not ever publicly seen, counted or verified as to where the signatory lived, may well be another example of this developer’s unethical efforts to thwart the will of the citizens of the city of San Mateo as well as their right to vote on this major issue. It’s all becoming very familiar.
