Editor,

I’ve been reading, listening to various responses regarding the San Francisco Giants caps on the Pride Night, some pros and some cons. To educate myself with some background facts I found that 16% of the San Francisco population identifies as LGBTQ+ and California is 5.1%. The San Francisco Pride cap was introduced in 2021. The rainbow symbol was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978 and introduced and commissioned by Harvey Milk at the first official S.F. Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 1, 1978. The “self-created” emblem of pride and diversity was to be distinct from the painful Pink Triangle; according to Mr. Milk. While it’s important to understand S.F. Pride history, it’s also important to understand the other 84% population’s history, beliefs and rights; as we live, socialize and work side by side.

Well written, Ms. King. With the controversy, protests, and name calling infecting every other part of our existence, let’s allow sports to be an escape where we can enjoy hot dogs, cheese fries, soda, ice cold lemonade, and/or whatever floats your culinary boat. And let’s enjoy women’s sports comprising of biological women.
