Editor,

I had a good laugh on May 15 when Gov. Newsom was blaming President Trump for the budget deficit. It’s not his fault. The 2024-25 budget had issues and Trump was not in office. Read the article from the Hoover Institute that does a good job of explaining the budget. He has taken money from the reserve account to pay for services. The biggest spending is Heath and Human Services at 38.5% and K-12 at 26.6%. Sorry to say we need to cut the fat and waste to get out of debt. Time for beans and rice. Anyone getting out of debt understands that phase.

Thanks for your letter, Ms. Wieland. Don’t worry. All of Newsom’s shortcomings aren’t being blamed on Trump by Newsom. Newsom is happy to blame anyone and everyone else. If I recall, Newsom blames cities for their handling of homeless folks and shortage of affordable housing. Newsom blamed COVID for his masking and group gathering policies, although Newsom was happy to eschew those same policies. Don’t be surprised if Newsom expects everyone else to eat beans and rice while Newsom dines on steak and lobster, with caviar and cracker appetizers, of course. Wait, Newsom seems to be the blini type…
