Editor,
Psssst! Someone please tell letter writer Eileen Wieland that President Donald Trump’s new bill is projected to further increase the budget deficit by $3 trillion in the next decade. It will cut Medicaid and food aid while increasing defense spending and further benefiting the wealthy in this country.

Unfortunately both parties are responsible for adding massively to our debt. In not too long a time the interest on our debt will become the biggest line item in the Federal budget.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Nakamura, but a few issues (off the top of my head) come to mind if you’re referring to the CBO projection. It should be noted the CBO is populated by analysts who are Democrat donors. It should also be noted the CBO has a poor record of fiscal estimates (https://waysandmeans.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Hayden-Dublois_Testimony.pdf). Once you factor in tariffs, this supposed deficit is no longer a deficit and in fact reduces the deficit. And finally, it’s interesting that all of a sudden, Democrats are concerned about budget deficits but when they were in charge, they didn’t care a whit about deficits or deficit spending. Another episode of “orange man bad” and Trump Derangement Syndrome?
