Ray Mueller deserves to be reelected to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. He is a hard worker, a deep thinker, a meticulous leader and a dedicated public servant.
The district includes the coast, a wide-ranging area with a variety of interests centered on its rural locale, but also adjacent to the other issues facing our growing county. Farming and housing are key, managing growth and supporting the workforce also have a role. Mueller can go from supporting landlines for emergency support and ensuring clean drinking water in rural areas to working toward farmworker housing all in a day’s work. He also must balance the other obligations of the county as one of five members of the Board of Supervisors. In that role, he led the charge in ensuring our top law enforcement official was held accountable to community standards and replaced according to voters’ wishes. Whether it is contending with storms and flooding, a mass shooting, farmworker housing or removing a sheriff for cause and contending with the county’s ever-changing budget, we can count on Mueller to take on the challenges in a thoughtful and professional way.
His opponent, Joaquin Jimenez, previously served on the Half Moon Bay City Council until he lost the race for reelection in 2024. Jimenez was an avid proponent of affordable housing in the area, and lost his seat to an opponent more cautious about plans for growth. His main complaint is that Mueller hasn’t done enough and isn’t present, yet Jimenez hasn’t produced any ideas on how he could do a better job in any meaningful way.
It is true that farming and ranching on the coast deserves continued and additional support, but there is little evidence that Mueller has been absent on the issue in any tangible way. In fact, he has pushed in every way possible for that support within the confines of reality.
In that reality, Mueller has done the job well and represented both the district and the county well. He deserves the opportunity to serve an additional four years.
