Mary Kathleen Powers died peacefully on March 2, 2007. Born in Oakland on Oct. 2, 1928, she was a lifelong native of the Bay Area. Mary was a great spirit who spent 31 years teaching elementary school children in the Laguna Salada School District. Mary was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers and enjoyed many other sports. She had an eclectic taste in music, from Bach to Boogie, and played the clarinet as well. She loved the arts, theater, ballet, symphony and movies. Mary was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in history and also had an elementary teaching credential from San Francisco State University.
