Judy Chia Chu Kuo, beloved mother, grandmother, and long-time owner of Gau Poang restaurant, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, just shy of her 78th birthday.
For four decades, Judy was the heart and soul of Gau Poang, where she created not just a restaurant but a gathering place that became woven into the fabric of the community. Gau Poang became a regular destination for countless families, including her own, who maintained a cherished tradition of weekly dinners, spanning generations, under her loving guidance.
Judy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her daughter and four grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of bringing people together through food and tradition. Born on December 15, 1946, she demonstrated throughout her life the values of hard work, generosity, devotion to family, and the power of a shared meal to strengthen bonds between friends and the community.
Family and friends are invited to her memorial service on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s, 977 S El Camino Real in San Mateo. Reception to follow at Taste and Glory (formerly Gau Poang). Â
