A 29-year-old Oakland woman was sentenced to one year in county jail and three years of supervised probation after she pleaded no contest to negligent discharge of a firearm Tuesday for allegedly shooting her estranged husband through the front door of a South San Francisco apartment last fall, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Monica Solorio had allegedly told police she was afraid of her husband and brought a loaded firearm with her when she went to an ex-boyfriend’s apartment Sept. 8. Her husband allegedly arrived at the apartment and asked to speak with Solorio and she is said to have shot him through the front door, hitting him in the buttocks, according to prosecutors.
Solorio is believed to have shot at him at least one more time before her ex-boyfriend stopped her. She hid the gun and attempted to dispose of a bag of methamphetamine before allegedly telling police she was afraid of her husband, who wasn’t found to have been armed, according to prosecutors.
Having been in custody on $10 million bail, Solorio received 357 days credit for time served and is required to complete 104 hours of domestic violence counseling and not to have any contact with the victim, according to prosecutors.
Solorio’s defense attorney Paula Spano was not immediately available for comment.
