Another storm system is expected to hit the Peninsula Wednesday evening through Friday evening, though it won’t be as intense as the previous weekend’s storm, National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Merchant said.
Over last weekend, rainfall and wind was abundant throughout the Bay Area, with areas near San Francisco International Airport receiving 1.32 inches of rain, Redwood City getting just over three-quarters of an inch and the Santa Cruz Mountains foothills receiving 1.25 inches of rain.
While those 24 hours now account for the majority of rainfall this water year, that’s normal and can help prevent fire hazards come summer, Merchant said.
“Last night was probably the biggest bulk of rainfall we’ve gotten so far,” he said Monday. “We’re fortunate to get this rain. If we don’t get these types of rainfalls, we have a lot of fire weather hazards and concerns.”
Tuesday is expected to bring sunny skies, Merchant said, with clouds rolling in Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming storm.
“This next system is not gonna have the punch [Sunday] night did,” he said. “We won’t have as much rainfall or as strong of winds.”
