The San Mateo City Council unanimously adopted a resolution declaring Black lives matter and expressed interest in commissioning a potentially permanent mural in the city.

Those decisions Monday, July 20, followed an hourslong discussion about the San Mateo Police Department’s budget and policies, with roughly half of the more than 100 speakers during the public comment portion of the meeting calling to defund police while the other half expressed enthusiastic support for them.

I doubt that any of the council members have even taken the time to find out what BLM really stands for. BLM is not committed to Black people but is committed to the overthrow of the government as we know it. None of the council members would be holding an office should BLM prevail. If they were really committed to racial equality, why not have a White artist design and build an otherwise irritating mural. Group think at its best and cave in to a fringe but dangerous movement.

Permanently affixing the name of that organization to our city is a disgrace. It is certainly not art. It is a political statement with roots in domestic terrorism.

Those of us from another generation know the history of BLM. It scares me to see this council leading in thie dark direction. these twopast comments are so true. the fistnfor me are the two athletes refusing to mparticipate plus the fost reminds me of the Black Panther party I wonder if any of these glory seekers for councils are aware of any of the past fist imagery. terrorism does exist in our country. it behooves us to remove those that want to pursue the scary times of this past by paintings etc..Read the history of those days of riots recurring again now Lead us out of this influence so troubling to see it happen again. and have this honored? Crazy.

Anyone that thinks racism and prejudice are not alive and well in San Mateo County and the nation in general need only read the previous posts.
