Community members are invited to share thoughts on a burgeoning proposal for a major resort facility development on the coastside at a pre-application workshop Sept. 30.
The resort facility proposal, named Stonewood Lodge, would be located at 37 Frenchman’s Creek and include a clubhouse, restaurant, wellness center, 12 villas, six cabanas and a new campground with 12 camping spots, among other amenities.
The goal of the workshop, hosted by San Mateo County, is to foster public involvement early in the process and highlight any potential issues before the formal application process.
According to a 2023 master plan, the resort would be located on the same property as commercial cannabis facility Half Moon Grow, denoted in the plan as SKRRR. Ed Wilkinson, who co-owns Half Moon Grow with Aneese Bishara, is listed as the applicant for the Stonewood Resort proposal.
The development would also include six farmworker housing units — each housing two to four farmworkers, the master plan said — and reconfigure “existing onsite agriculture” to the eastern side of the property.
Per the master plan, use of the land both for agriculture and recreation would highlight the coastside’s multifaceted economic development opportunities.
“Stonewood Resort is the next step on SKRRR’s path of being a role model for agriculture in San Mateo County,” the plan said. “The resort is a demonstration that agriculture properties in the unincorporated Midcoast have a wealth of opportunities to support local farming while enhancing coastal recreation.”
The resort features will not negatively impact agricultural land and will be built outside of environmentally sensitive zones with sustainability in mind, the master plan said.
The master plan proposes a three-phase build, with the farmworker housing — to “support current and expanded operations for agriculture onsite and at adjacent parcels” — coming first. The second phase would build out the resort infrastructure, and the third would develop an owner-operator single-family residence.
The pre-application workshop will be held Sept. 30, at the Harbor Village District Office — located at 270 Capistrano Road, Suite 6 in Half Moon Bay — from 6-7:30 p.m.
