“I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to serve in the community where I chose to live and raise my family with my wife, Kelly, and to lead the employees of the San Bruno Police Department,” Lethin said in the press release. “I look forward to building on the work already being done by the outstanding men and women of the department.”
Lethin began police work in 2000 in the Marin County Sheriff’s Department, according to the press release. He joined the San Mateo Police Department in 2006 and was selected as a captain in 2021.
During that tenure, his focus was on countywide fentanyl overdose investigation protocols, the creation of a homeless outreach team and a domestic violence advocate co-response program, the press release said.
He holds a bachelors, a masters in public administration and several accreditations in police work, including graduating the Command College Program and the California Police Chiefs Association Executive Leadership Certification Program, according to the release.
“Chief Lethin understands San Bruno’s challenges and priorities. I am confident he will lead our police department to implement programs and initiatives that will enhance public trust and community relations, continuing to ensure public safety in our community,” San Bruno City Manager Alex McIntryre said in the press release.
