A measure modernizing Redwood City’s business license fees, providing relief to small business while seeking to address projected budget deficits, will be on November ballots for voter consideration.

Measure BB includes an adjusted per employee rate based on defined job categories, with tiered rates depending on number of employees, and a maximum annual tax payable for each business to not exceed $250,000.

Thanks, Ana Mata, for the detailed look at Measure BB. The most important takeaway: “Revenue from the tax will not go toward funding new jobs in the city, but will help sustain current employees and provide appropriate raises as the cost of living continues to rise, Howard said. Basically, you’re paying for raises and their associated increases in pensions and benefits costs. Taxpayers won’t receive any benefit. Vote NO on Measure BB and any other ballot measures looking to take more of your money to fund raises and ever increasing pensions and benefits.
