A 37-year-old former Sequoia Station Mathnasium tutor was sentenced to one year in county jail for trying to meet up for sex with a 17-year-old girl with whom he worked, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Pouya Asrar, a Redwood City resident, previously pleaded no contest to one felony county of setting up a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes. He will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
On Nov. 20, 2023, Asrar, allegedly initiated a text-based conversation with the victim, who informed him of his age. He allegedly acknowledged that and continued to message her, with the messages becoming lewd and sexual in nature, police said previously.
Redwood City police detectives were able to get the suspect to allegedly come to a location where he thought he was going to meet the victim for sex. He was arrested and had condoms on him, according to prior statements from police.
