After 10 years as city manager for Redwood City and 34 years in Bay Area local government service, City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz has announced her intent to retire in December 2025.

“It has been an honor and a joy to serve as city manager for Redwood City,” Stevenson Diaz said in a press release. “I am proud of the work we have accomplished together for this great community and I think it is the right time to pass the baton to the next city manager.”

The children of Redwood City are hoping for a male city manager this time.

Some random guy will do - as long as he shows more professionalism and empathy to give our kids Safe-Routes-To-School. A very simple and basic task this female city manager has refused to do in last 10 years of her invaluable service ... to the car industry.

Instead of taking this responsibility straight on she outsourced it to a marketing group called "Redwood City Together" - a group with no transportation know-how, no transportation budget and no jurisdiction for anything. Basically another Astroturfing outlet the taxpayer pays for to spin our heads and telling us there is no budget.
