A 58-year-old San Carlos man died Thursday after a pickup truck hit him on his motorcycle west of Carmel Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around noon, when a 68-year-old Salinas man driving west in a 2003 Ford F-250 on Carmel Valley Road at Selfridge Lane at 55 mph swerved after he saw a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.
The man passed the vehicle on the right shoulder, and then veered back into the westbound lane, but overcorrected into the eastbound lane, where he broadsided a 2012 red Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.
The unidentified motorcyclist, who had been riding east, was ejected and died at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
The pickup truck driver was taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas for treatment of moderately serious injuries.
CHP investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
