A knife and evidence markers sit on the ground on the 900 block of Sandra Court in South San Francisco Dec. 8 after Luis Francisco-Manzo, 28, of South San Francisco allegedly charged toward police officers with the knife raised. Officers shot Francisco-Manzo and he is recovering in an area hospital.
The South San Francisco Police Department on Thursday released the name of a man shot and injured by officers last week and the names of the officers involved.
On Dec. 8 just after 5 a.m., officers shot and wounded a man identified as Luis Francisco-Manzo, 28, who police said charged at them with a knife.
Police allege Francisco-Manzo was under the influence of drugs, armed with a knife and making suicidal statements on the 900 block of Sandra Court.
According to police and body-worn camera footage, when officers arrived to do a welfare check after Francisco-Manzo’s mother called 911, they spoke with him and he came outside of his home.
Francisco-Manzo’s mother had told police that her son was suicidal. When officers spoke with him to de-escalate the situation, he initially complied and approached them.
Francisco-Manzo then allegedly brandished a knife and officers used a Taser, ordering him to drop the knife.

“The Taser was ineffective, and the subject ignored further commands before advancing at officers,” Cpl. Brian Blake said at the time.
After more commands, the man allegedly charged at the officers with the knife raised.
Two officers fired at Francisco-Manzo and he was hit. They are identified as Brendan Hart, who has been with the department for eight years, and Martin Corona, who has been with SSFPD for 4 1/2 years.
Francisco-Manzo was taken to a trauma center and survived his injuries.
The shooting is being investigated by the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office while Francisco-Manzo’s actions are being investigated by the SSFPD Criminal Investigations Bureau, the department said.
