Sheriff Ken Binder named Capt. Mike Tabak as the next chief of Police Services for the San Carlos Police Bureau.
Tabak has nearly 20 years of service to San Mateo County and officially stepped into the role March 15.
Tabak began his career with the Sheriff’s Office as a correctional officer before serving as a deputy sheriff in Millbrae, San Carlos and unincorporated Redwood City/the Headquarters Patrol Bureau.
He served as a field training officer, the county’s crisis intervention training coordinator and was a member of the Crisis Negotiation Unit. After being promoted to the rank of detective, Tabak collaborated with Behavioral Health and Recovery Services to lead the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team in San Carlos.
“I’m truly honored to serve as Chief of Police Services for the City of San Carlos, a community I have had the opportunity to serve throughout my career,” Tabak said in a press release. “I promise to deliver compassionate, consistent and credible leadership for the community and the incredible deputies and professional staff who keep the City of Good Living safe. I look forward to collaborating with city leadership and building even stronger relationships with the San Carlos community.”
