A high speed chase starting in San Francisco early this morning ended behind a bush near the front porch of a N. Amphlett residence in San Mateo. The California Highway Patrol took Jose Santiago into custody at the San Mateo County Jail this morning for multiple charges, including evading and resisting arrest, reckless driving, and possession of narcotics.
The chase started on highway 101 at 1:27 a.m. this morning when the San Francisco Police Department pursued Santiago for driving recklessly. The chase continued along 101, with CHP picking it up from Broadway in Burlingame. Santiago took the 3rd Ave. exit westbound to Amphlett Street and proceeded northbound towards Poplar. At the 700 block, CHP then crashed into Santiago's vehicle and spun it out. Lt. Randy Greer of CHP said the tactic is used as a last resort.
"If they're going into a populated area and you can no longer control them, we do it." Greer said.
