Countywide representatives on the Board of Supervisors, the Board of Education and the community college district are close to decided, as of election night.
East Palo Alto Councilmember Lisa Gauthier will likely serve District 4 on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, defeating her colleague East Palo Alto Mayor Antonio Lopez with 60.2% of the vote, according to San Mateo County Elections Office semiofficial election results as of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Gauthier will take the seat of board President Warren Slocum, and represent East Palo Alto, Redwood City, Menlo Park and North Fair Oaks. On The Game podcast with Mark Simon and Bob Marks, Gauthier said on election night the projected outcome was a result of being on the ground.
“It was about knocking on doors and really being in community,” Gautheir said. “It’s almost 12 years of being an elected official in San Mateo County, and those relationships, I think, have really made a difference.”
Gauthier will join a rather young board — supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller are both in their first terms in office.
“To be a new board member, it is important to come together and work together,” Gauthier said. “We’ll definitely be looking forward to that.”
Former U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier was elected to the Board of Supervisors in the primary race in March by receiving more than 50% of the vote. She will represent District 1, which includes Burlingame, Hillsborough, Millbrae, parts of San Bruno and South San Francisco, replacing current Supervisor Dave Pine.
