A San Mateo man broke into the home of a teenage neighbor and fondled the girl, then threatened to kill her while wearing his son's shorts on his head, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Alfredo Barriga Arias, 30, was arrested shortly after the alleged incident Sunday and appeared in court for the first time yesterday. Arias declined to enter a plea to two felony counts of lewd acts on a child more than 10 years younger than himself, two counts of residential burglary and two counts of making threats until he meets with a court-appointed attorney. If convicted of the multiple felonies, Arias will face a state prison term.
Arias was reportedly intoxicated July 25 when he broke into a neighboring apartment while the 14-year-old victim's father drove her mother to work. The girl told authorities Arias tried to kiss and fondle her but she screamed. He allegedly fled the unit but returned 20 minutes later with his son's shorts covering his head. He threatened to kill her and once again grabbed for her chest, she said.
The girl then escaped the apartment and the police were called.
The girl was "extremely traumatized," according to prosecutors.
Authorities did not release the age of Arias' son.
Arias remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail. He returns to court Aug. 2 to identify his attorney and enter a plea.
