After a rainy week last week for San Mateo County on the outskirts of an atmospheric river, residents can expect reprieve into December, National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Mehle said.
Temperatures during the day will be in the mid- to low 60s and partly sunny, he said, with overnight lows on the chiller side in the low 40s into the upper 30s.
There is little rain in the forecast up to Dec. 5, Mehle said.
Last week, the county received anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of rain in lower-elevation areas and 4 to 6 inches of rain in higher-elevation areas, he said. That puts the county at up to 80% to 85% of a normal water year in the southern areas and more than 100% in the northern areas.
“We’re expected to have a La Niña-type winter, which means there’s really not going to be a strong signal for above-normal rainfall,” Mehle said. “It’s showing warmer and drier for most of December.”
