Bay Area Cruise Night

Patrick Garrison, left, and Mike Frenna talk about their teenage years — when they would cruise El Camino Real from Burlingame to Redwood City — Friday during Bay Area Cruise Night, an annual event where thousands of car enthusiasts gather and cruise down El Camino Real from Third Avenue to Hillsdale Shopping Center, just like people did back in the day.

Hundreds of cars are expected to cruise up and down El Camino Real in San Mateo from downtown to the mall Saturday night.

From 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday cars will cruise from Third Avenue to Hillsdale Shopping Center. According to San Mateo police, all vehicles are expected to obey traffic laws, which will be enforced. Spectators are expected to remain on sidewalks and avoid spilling into the road, avoid littering, respect private property and no intoxication. Police are also warning against burnouts, doughnuts, excessive speed, passengers leaning out of windows or standing up in truck beds, impaired driving or any dangerous maneuvers.
