A fire broke out after a vehicle crashed into Hassett Ace Hardware Store in Redwood City Monday evening, but no injuries were reported, first responders said.
Firefighters responded to a call about a fire at 292 Woodside Plaza around 5:13 p.m. and found a car on fire in the hardware store upon arrival. Contents of the store caught fire and it took approximately 20 minutes to put the fire out, Battalion Chief Glendon Chan said.
Hassett Ace Hardware Redwood City said in a press release it is unknown when the business will reopen, but has begun steps and will do so as soon as possible. There was extreme fire and water damage, the press release said.
“We are so thankful no one was injured or hurt and we owe a debt of gratitude to our incredible team who acted quickly and bravely to help the driver out of the car, extinguish what fire they could, and shuttle customers and employees to safety outside the building. We feel incredibly lucky,” owner Eric Hassett said in the release.

As of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, reconstruction teams had boarded up the shop and were investigating any damage at the nearby stores, Breaker’s Cafe and Helen’s Cleaner. Both would likely be closed for the next few days, Helen’s Cleaner owner Gil, who didn’t want to give his last name, said.
