The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit tows a capsized sailboat in San Francisco Bay July 11. Deputies rescued three passengers from the water about half a mile east of the San Francisco International Airport.
Three people were rescued from San Francisco Bay off San Mateo County on Saturday after their sailboat capsized.
The trio was sailing near Coyote Point, which is south of San Francisco International Airport, when their boat tipped over at about 1:30 p.m.
Deputies with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit who were training near the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge responded, the Sheriff's Office said Monday.
The boat capsized about a half mile east of the airport, the Sheriff's Office said.
The three sailors, who were Foster City residents, were cold from the water exposure but were otherwise uninjured. They were taken to Coyote Point Marina and evaluated by paramedics as a precaution.
The boat was also towed to the marina by the Sheriff's Office Marine Unit.
Waters in that area of the Bay at that time were about 69 degrees, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
