Two Los Angeles County residents have been charged with identity theft after forged documents, IDs and identifying information belonging to others were allegedly found in their car after a routine traffic stop in San Mateo, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.Â
Megan McMurray, 45, has been charged with 14 felonies and one misdemeanor for identity theft and possession of methamphetamine and heroin after allegedly taking responsibility for the contents of the car, where drugs were found alongside the documents, Wagstaffe said. Chad Correia, 45, who was also in the vehicle, was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor.Â
The traffic stop occurred May 4 after the car was spotted without proper headlights, Wagstaffe said. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the alleged forged documents and drugs.
Correia pleaded not guilty on May 7 and has a preliminary hearing set for May 20. McMurray, who was in the hospital, will enter a plea May 8, Wagstaffe said. Both defendants had bail set at $25,000 and are currently in custody.
