Randall Booker, superintendent of the San Mateo Union High School District; Former SMUHSD trustee Peter Hanley; San Mateo High School Athletic Director Jeff Scheller; San Mateo High School Principal Yvonne Shiu; Trustee Jennifer Jacobson; Trustee Teri Chavez; Citizens Oversight Committee Member Erica Lyons; and Trustee Ligia Andrade Zuniga at the May 16 groundbreaking for the new San Mateo High School gymnasium. The new building will be 20,085 square feet on the site of the existing tennis courts. It will include team and training rooms, classrooms and additional support spaces. It is designed by longtime district partners Quattrocchi Kwok Architects and managed by Greystone West. The district also held a groundbreaking for the Burlingame High School gym project, approximately 37,492 square feet to be constructed on the site of the existing gym.
