“OUR FRAGILE EARTH”: MIXED MEDIA PAINTINGS BY WABI-SABI ARTIST DANA MANO-FLANK AT THE COMMUNITY GALLERY IN REDWOOD CITY. Dana Mano-Flank is a San Carlos-based wabi-sabi artist with a focus on nature. Wabi-sabi is a traditional Japanese aesthetic which signifies acceptance of transience and imperfection. In her exhibition “Our Fragile Earth,” Mano-Flank seeks to create awareness and insight and explores the fragile connections between nature and human society. In her mixed-media paintings, she integrates natural materials found in forests, quarries and oceans to recreate organic textures on her canvases. A conscious effort to honor the mundane and incidental is part of the artist’s philosophy. Mano-Flank received her degree in Comparative Arts from Washington University in St. Louis. Her work has appeared in numerous juried exhibitions and invitational shows in museums, galleries, and art centers throughout the United States. Earlier this year, she had a three month solo exhibition at the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego’s Balboa Park. “Our Fragile Earth” is on view at the Community Gallery, 400 County Center in the Hall of Justice, Redwood City through Jan. 2, 2019.
