Kennedy Center exodus continues as National Symphony director Jean Davidson heads to the Wallis

NEW YORK (AP) — National Symphony Orchestra director Jean Davidson has left the Kennedy Center to lead the Wallis Annenberg Center in Los Angeles, as turmoil grows under President Donald Trump’s control. On Friday, the Wallis named her executive director and CEO. Davidson joined the Kennedy Center in 2023 and previously led Los Angeles Master Chorale. She told the Los Angeles Times it became harder to stay because of outside forces. Trump has pushed the center as a target in his fight against what he calls woke culture. Many artists have canceled performances at the Kennedy Center.

MADRID (AP) — A Spanish soccer team is asking Madonna for help in finding the club shirt she wore on stage during a concert in 1990. Celta Vigo penned an open letter to the pop star desperately seeking information about the true blue shirt she wore on the Blonde Ambition tour. The club played Madonna songs before its 2-1 home league defeat by Real Madrid. It also placed a picture of her in the cherished No. 5 shirt in the center of the field before kickoff. The club president has asked the 67-year-old material girl if she would respond to his open letter to her with any information.

NEW YORK (AP) — Sarah J. Maas has announced two new books in her “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series, ending a long wait for fans. Bloomsbury announced Book 6 would come Oct. 27. And Book 7 arrives Jan. 12, 2027. Neither book has a title yet. Maas last released an installment, “A Court of Silver Flames,” in February 2021. She revealed the new books on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. She says it took time to find the right story. But she says the writing came quickly. Bloomsbury says her books have sold over 75 million copies.

Judge weighs New York Times bid to block policy limiting journalists' access to Pentagon

WASHINGTON (AP) — The New York Times is urging a federal judge to block a Pentagon policy that has limited access to the building for journalists from many mainstream news outlets. U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman didn’t rule from the bench after hearing arguments in the newspaper's lawsuit against the Defense Department Friday. The Times is seeking a court order for the Pentagon to reinstate press credentials for reporters who refused to agree to the new rules. A newspaper lawyer said the policy is depriving Americans of vital information about U.S. military operations while the country is at war. A Justice Department attorney said the policy reflects the government’s duty to protect national security information.
