Woodside 1, Sequoia 0
The Wildcats (3-1-1 PAL Bay, 6-3-2 overall) jumped into first place in the PAL Bay Division with a home win over rival Sequoia (2-1-2, 4-5-3). Senior Tindra Eckstein scored the game’s only goal in the first half on an assist from sophomore Natalia Lopez. Woodside (10 points) opened the day in third place, one point behind Sequoia and Carlmont, now tied for second place with eight points apiece.
Homestead 8, Terra Nova 0
Junior forward Saara Lahtela scored a five-goal glut to lead Homestead-Cupertino (6-5) to a non-league home win over Terra Nova (4-4). The output left Lahtela one goal shy of her career-high, last year’s double hat trick against Gunn-Palo Alto. Senior Myley Markley totaled three assists for Homestead, while senior Anna Lips assisted twice.

Serra 2, Sacred Heart Cathedral 1
The Padres (3-1-1 WCAL, 7-2-2 overall) earned their third straight win, using two first-half goals at home to down Sacred Heart Cathedral (1-3-1, 6-4-1). With the win, Serra (10 points) moves into sole possession of third place in the West Catholic Athletic League, trailing first-place St. Francis (13 points) and second-place Mitty (11 points).
Serra is back in action Wednesday at St. Ignatius.

Boys’ soccer
El Camino 4, Half Moon Bay 1
Senior forward Andrew Tafolla scored his first hat trick of the year, and the second of his varsity career, to lead the Colts (8-0-1 PAL Ocean, 11-0-1 overall) at home against Half Moon Bay (5-1-2, 5-4-3) in a key PAL Ocean Division matchup.
Tafolla got El Camino in the board in the first half with an assist from junior Santino Frances, and scored again on an unassisted goal before halftime. Sophomore Emilio Jimenez added his fourth goal of the season in the second half, and Tafolla finished out the day scoring on a penalty kick. Junior Soren Brown scored HMB’s lone goal in the second half.
With the win, first-place El Camino (25 points) establishes a stronghold atop the PAL Ocean standings over second-place HMB (17 points) with seven league games remaining.
Menlo-Atherton 2, Sequoia 0
The Bears (1-0-3 PAL Bay, 3-4-3 overall) broke their three-game stalemate to open PAL Bay Division play with a home win over Sequoia (1-4-1, 3-5-2). M-A scored just two goals through its first three league games to draw with South City, Burlingame and Aragon. Junior midfielder Vincent Alastalo helped equal that scoring total Friday with one goal and one assist, while senior forward Nico Lanza also scored for M-A.

Senior attacker Dylan Rossen scored the game’s lone goal in the first half on an assist from junior Jack Clarke, as the Panthers (3-2-1 PAL Bay, 6-2-1 overall) earned a key home win over Aragon (2-3-1, 3-6-1) to move into sole possession of third place in the PAL Bay Division. Burlingame (10 points) started the day tied for third with Aragon (7 points), one point ahead of Carlmont, who tied Hillsdale to move into a fourth-place tie with Aragon.

Senior midfielder Ben Lange recorded one goal and one assist, as the Wildcats (3-0-2 PAL Bay, 6-1-2 overall) moved into a first place tie with Hillsdale in the PAL Bay Division with a home win over South City (0-5-1, 0-9-1). Senior midfielder Luke Hunter got Woodside on the board in the first half on an assist from sophomore Finnley Lyssand. Lange then scored with an assist from sophomore Jack Tobin, and returned the favor by assisting on a goal from sophomore Matteo DiGrande before halftime.
Mills 2, San Mateo 0
The Vikings (5-4 PAL Ocean, 5-5 overall) tallied two second-half goals to win at home over San Mateo (4-4-1, 5-6-1). Lucas Zaninovich got Mills on the board on an assist from Ethan Cabrera. Shamal Kumar followed with a goal with an assist from Julian Mindel.
Capuchino 2, Oceana 1
Oliver Lopez’s second-half goal was the difference at Cap (5-4-2 PAL Ocean, 4-4-1 overall) earned the win at Oceana (1-7-1, 1-7-1). Edwin Garfias got Cap on the board with a first-half goal. Oceana’s goal was scored by Quinn Allen in the second half.
Menlo School 9, Pinewood 0
Chuck Wynn and Blake Putanec each scored twice as the Knights (3-1 WBAL, 5-3-2 overall) cruised to the win at home over Pinewood-Los Altos Hills (0-3-1, 0-4-1). Seniors Charlie Allard and Cameron Rafati recorded two assists apiece for Menlo, while Matthew Bowden, Stevie Halprin, Declan Sitter, Sam Beckerson and Tyler McMullen scored one goal apiece.
In other action ...
Carlmont (2-1-1 PAL Bay, 3-3-2 overall) moved into a fourth-place tie in the PAL Bay Division with a 0-0 draw at Hillsdale (3-0-2, 6-1-4). Hillsdale, after opening the day all alone atop the Bay standings, falls into a first-place tie with Woodside.
Sacred Heart Prep (4-0 WBAL, 5-1-2 overall) stayed tied for first place with Crystal in the West Bay Athletic League with a 1-0 home win over Eastside College Prep (0-4, 2-7).
Terra Nova (3-5-1 PAL Ocean, 3-5-1 overall) claimed a 3-0 win at Jefferson (1-2-6, 1-2-8).
Nueva School (4-0 PSAL, 5-6 overall) used three second-half goals to earn a 5-3 comeback with over Design Tech (1-2-1, 1-3-1) at Skyline College.
Summit Shasta (0-4 PSAL, 0-5 overall) fell 4-3 at KIPP Esperanza-Palo Alto (1-2-2, 2-5-3).

Nueva School (2-0 PSAL North, 3-1-1 overall) claimed a 3-1 win over Design Tech (4-1, 5-1) at the Belmont Sports Complex.
Summit Shasta (1-2 PSAL North, 1-2 overall) rolled to a 10-1 win over KIPP Esperanza-Palo Alto (0-4, 0-6) at Gellert Park.
