The Padres (0-1-1 WCAL, 4-2-2 overall) are still looking for their first win in West Catholic Athletic League play after falling at home to red-hot St. Francis (2-0, 7-0-1). With the win, the first-place Lancers take the early advantage in the WCAL standings, with the first team to two league wins.
Santa Cruz 5, Half Moon Bay 2
Someone alert the Santa Cruz Sentinel their hometown boys’ soccer team has an athlete of the week candidate in senior Desmond Boutelle. The striker carried the Cardinals (5-3-1) to at home with a season-best four-goal haul against visiting Half Moon Bay (4-3-3). Boutelle now has six goals on the week, after scoring both Santa Cruz goals last Tuesday in a 2-0 win over Seaside. Senior midfielder Stefan Ciesiolkiewicz added one goal and three assists against HMB.
Girls’ soccer
Carlmont 1, Hillsdale 1
The Lady Scots (2-0-1 PAL Bay, 5-2-2 overall) battled back with Eva Awoyinka scoring the second-half equalizer to earn a draw at Hillsdale (0-1-2, 2-4-3). Gianni Armanini earned the assist on Awoyinka’s goal. Hillsdale got on the board in the first half on an Alyssa Han penalty kick. With the win, Carlmont closes out the week tied for first place in the early stages of PAL Bay Division play with Burlingame, both with seven points.
In other action ...
Aragon (2-2-4) battled to a 0-0 draw in non-league play at Menlo School (2-2-3).

Boys’ soccer
Crystal 3, Priory 0
Senior striker Evan Collins scored two goals, and senior Lucas Shotts had two assists, as the Gryphons (2-0 WBAL, 6-0-1) remained unbeaten with the win at Priory (0-2, 2-4). Junior defenseman Jimmy Naylor, coming off a two-goal game last Wednesday against Eastside Prep, added one goal against Priory. Senior goalkeeper Max Slavet recorded his first shutout of the season.
Menlo 7, Eastside Prep 0

Six different Knights scored as Menlo (2-0 WBAL, 4-2-2) rolled at home against Eastside College Prep (0-2, 2-5). Sophomore Ryder Shaw led the way with two goals, senior Charlie Allard had two assists, and Stevie Halprin, Declan Sitter, Blake Putanec, Kieran Vazquez and Liam Pappalardo each got in the scoring column. Senior goalkeeper Dylan O’Malley recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
Carlmont 2, Aragon 0
The Scots (1-1 PAL Bay, 2-3-1 overall) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win at Aragon (2-2, 3-5-1). Senior Xavier Grussing scored an unassisted goal to get Carlmont on the board in the first half. Senior Zaid Gaber scored with an assist from junior Ian Sijbrant in the second.
Hillsdale 1, Woodside 1
Hillsdale (2-0-1 PAL Bay, 5-1-3 overall) scored a second-half equalizer on a Tyler Hughes penalty kick to earn the draw in a battle of two first-place teams in the PAL Bay Division at Woodside (2-0-1, 5-1-1). Woodside got on the board in the first half on Ben Lange’s goal with an assist from Luca Marks. The two teams are in a three-way tie after the first week of league play, along with Burlingame.
Sequoia 4, South City 2
The Ravens (1-3 PAL Bay, 3-4-1 overall) snapped a four-game skid at South City (0-3-1, 0-7-1), knocking in three first-half goals to take the lead for good. South City was led by Julian Zaragoza’s two penalty kick goals.
Mills 5, Terra Nova 0
Kory Wong scored two goals to lead the Vikings (3-3 PAL Ocean, 3-4-1 overall) to the home win over Terra Nova (2-3-1, 2-3-1). Wong got Mills on the board with an assist from Adrian Lopez. Julian Mindel made it 2-0 with an assist from Shamal Kumar, and Mindel returned the favor with an assist on Wong’s second goal before the half. Kumar and Ryan Chavez added second-half goals, and Wayne Xioa earned an assist.
Jefferson 2, Half Moon Bay 2
Jefferson (1-1-4 PAL Ocean, 1-1-6 overall) got two goals from Wissam Altham earn the draw at Half Moon Bay (4-1-2, 4-2-3). David Ruiz assisted on Altham’s first goal, with Othman Nasser assisting on the second. HMB got on the board with Omar Valencia’s first-half goal. Anthony Sarabia scored for the Cougars in the second.
Westmoor 4, Capuchino 0
The Rams (2-4 PAL Ocean, 2-4 overall) rode two Cesar Rivera goals to the home win over Capuchino (2-3-1, 3-4-1). Jayden Mijos added one goal and one assist, and Kareen Alareb also scored for Westmoor.

Burlingame (2-1-1 PAL bay, 5-1-1 overall) and Menlo-Atherton (0-0-2, 2-4-2) battled to a scoreless draw.
Nueva (3-0 PSAL, 4-6 overall) rolled to a 4-2 victory at KIPP Esperanza-Palo Alto (0-1-2, 1-4-3).
