Local chapters of Indivisible, a nationwide activism organization, are mobilizing in solidarity this weekend to protest ICE in Redwood City.
Indivisible Mid-Peninsula and Portola Valley chapters, with support from other local chapters, will host a peaceful protest, “No Killing or Kidnapping in Our Name” to demand accountability from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The protest will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the corner of El Camino Real and Jefferson Avenue in Redwood City.
The impetus for the demonstration follows the shooting and killing of Renee Good, a U.S. citizen, in Minneapolis, Minnesota by an ICE agent Jan. 7, and a shooting of two in Portland, Oregon by U.S. Border Patrol on Thursday.
“We have a quickening sequence of events and practices on the part of ICE that are disregarding the law,” Nancy Nagel, organizer with Indivisible Mid-Peninsula said.

The point of the protest is to stand in solidarity with “our neighbors, which is Minneapolis this time,” Negal said.
“Trying to cover this up is to cow everybody into submission,” Nagel said. “The purpose of these protests are to make it clear that we are not going to be cowed. We are not going to stop exercising our rights to free speech.”
A vigil was also slated to be held by Indivisible Mid-Peninsula at 5 p.m. Friday at Fremont Park in Menlo Park, also honoring and mourning the life of Good.
“Everyone is frightened by the pace of the lawlessness and the extent of it, but we are not going to stand down,” Negal said.
