Serra 5, St. Ignatius 1
Serra right-hander Davis Minton has recorded a stellar 0.39 ERA this season but hasn’t earned a decision until Saturday. The junior entered in the fourth with the Padres trailing 1-0 and went on to fire 3 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout baseball to earn his first win of the year. Minton struck out five with nothing wild in relief of starting pitcher Mason Wehmeyer, who gave up on run on three hits through 3 1/3 innings.
Ian Armstrong led Serra at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Jake Downing, Michael Perazzo, Justin Scheller and Evan Bradshaw also drove in one run apiece for the Padres. Chase Gordon paced St. Ignatius with two hits.
With the win, second-place Serra (9-3 WCAL, 18-5 overall) earns a two-game series split with St. Ignatius and remains one game back of first-place Valley Christian with two games to go in the West Catholic Athletic League regular season. Serra wraps up league play this week with a pivotal two-game series against third-place Mitty, currently trailing the Padres by 1 1/2 games. Valley Christian closes with a two-game series against St. Ignatius (6-6, 15-7).
Sequoia 4, Los Altos 3
Sequoia reliever Dylan Karmin pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, and the Ravens (12-11) rallied for a walk-off win with one run in the bottom of the seventh to earn a non-league home win over Los Altos (12-9). Aaron Harkov shot a single to center under the glove of the diving Los Altos second baseman, and Luke Ulrich scored in Superman fashion with a headlong dive on a bang-bang play at the plate to win it. Max Stallings totaled two hits and an RBI for Sequoia, and Robert Oda added two hits with a double. Channing Hautop led Los Altos with two hits.
Woodside 16, Washington 0
Josef Schwab and Joseph Hohl combined for a three-hit shutout as the Wildcats (18-2-1) rolled to a non-league win at home over Washington-SF (8-14). Schwab fired four innings of two-hit ball, allowing one walk while striking out four, to earn the win. He improves to 3-1 on the year with a 1.46 ERA. Hohl closed it out with three innings of work, allowing one hit while striking out eight, to record his first career save. Connor Davidson led the way at the plate, going 3 for 3 with three doubles and five RBIs, Evan Chad added three hits with a double and an RBI, and Jack Jay went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
Gunn 7, San Mateo 6
The Bearcats (12-11) led 6-4 heading into the seventh, but Gunn (5-16) rallied for three runs to win it in San Mateo. Sophomore relief pitchers Tyce Copus cand Christian Louie combined for four scoreless innings. Louie was in line for the win, working two-thirds of an inning, while Copus went 3 1/3, allowing one hit while striking out seven. Aaron Wong took the loss, allowing three runs, though only one was earned. Tripp Higgins led the Gunn comeback, going 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Julian Delfin, San Mateo’s starting pitcher, also led the Bearcats at the plate with three hits, including a double, a homer and two RBIs.
In other action ...
Aragon (12-10) totaled just three hits in a 15-1 non-league loss at Wilcox-Santa Clara (14-9).

Softball
Gunn 2, Mills 1
Mills pitchers Hailey Pedroza and Kalia Woo combined to hold Gunn (19-1) to just one hit, but Gunn pitcher Lauryn Selvaraj won the day in non-league action in Palo Alto. Selvaraj went the distance, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out eight to improve her unbeaten record to 8-0. Mills freshman Alyssa Penas recorded the only extra-base hit for the Lady Vikings (9-6) with a double, and junior Sofia Kwan scored the only run in the fifth to tie the game 1-1. Gunn junior Tess Bogart drove in both runs for the Titans. In the circle, Pedroza pitched four hitless innings, but walked three while allowing one run. Woo allowed one unearned run on one hit through two innings of work.

Half Moon Bay 9, South City 3
Freshman two-way standout Indie Glafkides has a day as the Cougars (4-3 PAL Ocean, 6-8 overall) scored five first-inning runs and rolled to victory over South City (2-7, 3-16) on the Coastside. Glafkides fueled the early rally with a single and went on to a 3-for-4 day with two runs scored, upping her season average to .385. In the circle, the freshman went the distance, allowing three runs (zero earned) on three hits and one walk while striking out seven. Miranda Sarabia added two doubled for the Cougars, while sophomore Taelor Johnson tallied two RBIs.
Terra Nova 19, El Camino 9
Madison Donati erupted for a 4-for-4 day with a triple and five RBIs, and freshman Keren Anthony added two hits with a double and five RBIs and the Tigers (6-2 PAL Ocean, 6-6 overall) batted around to put up a 9-spot in the first inning in a five-inning, mercy-rule win at home over El Camino (2-6, 2-11). Liah Trade enjoyed a three-hit, three-RBI day for Terra Nova, and Helena Nieve was 2 for 2 with a walk, two hit by pitches, and five runs scored. Evelyn Tapia paced El Camino with two hits and two RBIs, and Kristal Allcaraz also batted in two runs.

Capuchino (10-11) rolled to an 11-1 non-league win at home over Mountain View (9-9).

St. Ignatius 3, Serra 1
Two San Mateo natives paired to hold Serra to two hits, wreaking havoc on the Padres’ bid for a WCAL championship. With the loss, the Padres (9-3 WCAL, 18-5 overall) fall one game back of first-place Valley Christian in the WCAL standings.
St. Ignatius starter Chase Gordon whirled a gem, as the sophomore worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks to earn the win. Sophomore Archer Horn finished it out with two-thirds innings, striking out back-to-back batters to earn the save. Serra tied it 1-1 in the top of the fourth, but St. Ignatius (6-6, 15-7) rallied for two runs to take the lead back in the bottom of the frame. Beau Schaffer, another San Mateo kid, was 1 for 3 with an RBI for St. Ignatius, and AJ Wineinger added two hits with an RBI.
Serra starting pitcher Braden Agosta took a hard-luck loss, allowing three runs through four innings, though only one of the runs was earned. Sophomore right-hander Riley Lim followed with two scoreless innings of relief.
Hillsdale 10, Capuchino 3
Ethan Ganoza was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs at the plate, and senior left-hander Josh Mayol went the distance on the mound as the Knights (4-6 PAL Bay, 7-10-1 overall) scored early and often to win at home over Capuchino (4-6, 15-8). Mayol navigated seven hits and one walk to limit the Mustangs to three runs (two earned) while striking out six. Jake Belloni added a triple and three RBIs for Hillsdale, Parker Jessup drove in two, and Dylan Monozon went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Nathan Balch paced Cap with two hits, including a double, while Lucas Zayac and Yulio Ceron tabbed one RBI apiece.
Burlingame 3, Sacred Heart Prep 2
The Panthers rallied for a go-ahead run in the top of the sixth to break a 2-2 tie, maintaining their first-place tie atop the PAL Bay Division standings with the King’s Academy. Tyler LaChance was in on all three Burlingame runs, going 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Drew Lyons added an RBI, and Dylan Philibosian went 2 for 3 with a triple. Luca Scatena went the distance on the mound, outdueling SHP starting pitcher Rallin Covey to earn the win. Scatena allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three. His record improves to 4-1 with a 2.04 ERA. Covey took the complete-game loss, dropping the sophomore’s record to 3-3 with a 2.03 ERA.
More 12, Summit Shasta 3
With the game tied 3-3 in the seventh, More-San Jose (5-2 PSAL, 14-6 overall) rallied for nine runs in its final at-bat to down Summit Shasta (4-1, 8-6-1) at Gellert Park. More senior Tim Selway had a day, going 5 for 5 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored. Andrew Corr added four hits for the Knights. Benedict Del Rosario paced Summit Shasta with a 3-for-3 day, with a double and an RBI. Del Rosario also worked six innings to take a no-decision on the hill, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits.
