MIAMI (AP) — Tanner Bibee threw 6 2/3 solid innings, Steven Kwan and Patrick Bailey hit two-run doubles and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Saturday.
Gabriel Arias had three hits for the Guardians, who clinched the series after winning the opener 3-2 on Friday. The Marlins, who lost their first series since June 14-16 at Philadelphia, had won six consecutive home series.
Bibee (3-9) gave up one run and four hits, walked four and struck out three. Colin Holderman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
Miami starter Eury Pérez (5-7), who pitched seven perfect innings in his previous outing at the Athletics on July 5, allowed two runs and eight hits over six innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out six.
Kwan’s double in the fourth put Cleveland ahead 2-0. Arias and Petey Halpin had consecutive singles and both scored when Kwan hit an opposite filed grounder that rolled inside the line and toward the left-field foul area.
Liam Hicks hit an RBI single in the seventh.
Bailey answered with a two-run double in the eighth. After Kyle Manzardo was hit by a pitch and Kahlil Watson doubled, Bailey fell behind the count 0-2 against reliever William Kempner worked it to a full count then hit a line drive which bounced off the left-field wall.
PIRATES 7, BREWERS 6, 1ST GAME
PIRATES 3, BREWERS 2, 2ND GAME
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Esmerlyn Valdez hit his third home run of the day, and Pittsburgh edged NL Central-leading Milwaukee to sweep a doubleheader.
The Pirates won the first game 7-6, as Valdez hit two home runs — including a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning — and drove in six runs.
The rookie right fielder had eight RBIs in the two games and now has homered 10 times and driven in 26 runs in his first 27 career games.
Valdez’s two-run shot in the fourth inning of the nightcap opened the scoring. Brice Turang’s two-run double in the fifth pulled the Brewers even.
Bryan Reynolds singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth off rookie left-hander Shane Drohan (4-3), who allowed three runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings while striking out six and walking none.
Yohan Ramirez (6-2) pitched a scoreless sixth. Mason Montgomery protected a one-run lead in the ninth inning for his first save of the season and the second of his career.
Pirates rookie starter Bubba Chandler lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and five hits. He struck out six and walked three.
WHITE SOX 1, ATHLETICS 0
CHICAGO (AP) — Chase Meidroth hit an RBI double in the sixth inning, five pitchers combined on a four-hitter and Chicago sent the Athletics to their eighth straight loss.
The A’s, on their longest skid since dropping nine straight from May 27 to June 4 last year, have lost 12 of 13 and fell to 41-54.
Chicago clinched winning a home series for the 11th time in its last 12.
Bulk reliever Erick Fedde (5-6), the third Chicago pitcher, allowed two hits over four innings and Grant Taylor got five outs for his fourth save. Bryan Hudson pitched the first and Chris Murphy the second.
Meidroth and Luis Acuña each had two of Chicago’s five hits.
Gage Jump (3-4) allowed one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings in his ninth start since he was brought up from Triple-A on May 26. The rookie left-hander struck out seven and walked two.
Meidroth’s two-out double scored Colson Montgomery, who had walked.
Joshua Koruda-Grauer had two hits, including a double, and is 18 for 41 over his first 11 games in the majors.
TWINS 5, ANGELS 3
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Royce Lewis hit a two-run homer and sparked the go-ahead rally with a seventh-inning double as Minnesota beat Los Angeles.
Joe Ryan allowed two runs and six hits over six innings in his final start before heading to Philadelphia for Tuesday’s All-Star Game.
Newly acquired reliever Tommy Nance (2-2) allowed Nolan Schanuel’s seventh-inning single that tied the score 3-3.
Lewis and Victor Caratini led off the bottom half with back-to-back doubles off Mitch Ferris (0-1) and Alan Roden had an RBI single.
Woosuk Go, another recent addition to the Twins’ struggling bullpen, pitched a a one-hit eighth, and Yoendrys Gómez stranded the tying run on first for his 10th save. Plate umpire Chris Segal called a game-ending third strike on Vaughn Grissom, who overturned the decision in an ABS appeal. Grissom then swung past a sweeper.
Zach Neto singled twice, stole a base and scored two runs for the Angels, who went 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position. Mike Trout, Wade Meckler and Schanuel each had two hits.
Los Angeles starter Ryan Johnson gave up three runs, three hits and three walks in five innings.
GIANTS 4, ROCKIES 2
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Tyler Mahle won for the first time since mid-April, Casey Schmitt hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the sixth inning and San Francisco beat Colorado.
Mahle (2-8) allowed one run, five hits and three walks over seven innings. The 31-year-old right-hander had been 0-5 in nine starts since beating the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 22. He has a 3.00 ERA in eight starts at home and an 8.45 ERA in seven road outings.
JT Brubaker finished the six-hitter for his first professional save, allowing Kyle Karros’ eighth-inning homer.
San Francisco has won 20 of its last 22 home game against Colorado and 35 of 42 since 2021.
With the score 1-1, Heliot Ramos and Luis Arraez singled off Kyle Freeland (2-8) starting the sixth and Schmitt followed with his 19th homer.
Brett Sullivan doubled starting the third and scored on a balk by Mahle. Giants manager Tony Vitello came out to argue the call and was ejected by plate umpire Lance Barksdale, the second ejection this season for the first-year skipper.
YANKEES 4, NATIONALS 2
WASHINGTON (AP) — Trent Grisham’s two-run homer in of the eighth inning gave the Yankees another comeback victory over Washington's bullpen, giving Aaron Boone his 750th win as New York’s manager.
James Wood homered on Cam Schlittler’s first pitch of the game, and Curtis Mead went deep two batters later to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead, which they held until the eighth. Then Orlando Ribalta gave up a one-out solo shot to Ryan McMahon and a walk to Ben Rice.
Clayton Beeter (3-2) relieved Ribalta, and Grisham greeted him with a drive to the second deck in right field for a 3-2 lead. Paul Goldschmidt followed with a solo homer, his first long ball since June 24.
Washington leads the major leagues with 27 blown saves. The Nationals took a one-run lead into the ninth in the series opener Friday night, only for the Yankees to score three runs and win 5-3.
Brent Headrick (5-1) got the win in relief. David Bednar, who pitched two innings Friday, worked the ninth for his 18th save in 20 chances and his 16th straight scoreless outing.

NEW YORK (AP) — Andrew Monasterio and Masataka Yoshida hit two-run homers as surging Boston played after a night of normal rest and extended its winning streak to eight games with a victory over New York.
Boston is on its longest winning streak since taking 10 in a row from July 4-13 last year. The Red Sox have won 13 of 15 and 16 of 21.
The Red Sox arrived late for Friday’s series opener after flight trouble stranded them in Chicago for nearly 24 hours. Boston poked fun at the ordeal by sporting white T-shirts that read “Show and Go Airlines, See You at 4:15.”
Following a leadoff walk to Caleb Durbin in the fourth, Monasterio gave put the Red Sox ahead by hitting a fastball from Freddy Peralta (5-8) into the left-field seats. Durbin singled off Tobias Myers starting the righth and Yoshida lifted a 1-0 cutter into the right-field seats.
Eduardo Rivera started with 3 1/3 hitless innings in his first big league start, allowing Jorge Polanco’s single on his final pitch.
Greg Weissert and Jovani Moran (2-2) combined to pitch the next 2 2/3 innings and Justin Slaten escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth with a called third strike on rookie A.J. Ewing, who lost an ABS challenge.
RAYS 6, MARINERS 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Ryan Vilade hit a three-run homer, Ben Williamson posted a career-best four hits and Jonathan Aranda had three more and an RBI to give Tampa Bay a win over Seattle.
Vilade’s line drive off Gabe Speier broke open a 2-1 game with two out in the seventh, scoring Aranda and Junior Caminero. The first pinch-hit homer of Vilade’s career, it came after Seattle intentionally walked Caminero.
Williamson, drafted by the Mariners in 2023 and traded to Tampa Bay in February, knotted the game in the second with a double that scored Chandler Simpson from first. Williamson then scored an insurance run in the eighth as the Rays handed Seattle its fifth straight loss, tying a season high.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, padded the American League’s best record to remain four games in front of the New York Yankees in the AL East.
Back-to-back doubles in the third, including a gapper from Aranda to plate Yandy Díaz, gave the Rays their first lead, 2-1.
Seattle held a 1-0 advantage when Cole Young scored on Colt Emerson’s second-inning sac fly. But the Mariners never saw another runner reach third base as Garrett Jax (5-6) and the three Rays relievers combined to retire 19 of the final 23.
The Mariners were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and are 0 for 20 in their last three games.
PHILLIES 4, TIGERS 2
DETROIT (AP) — Cristopher Sánchez struck out seven in seven innings, Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto doubled and Philadelphia ended Detroit’s six-game winning streak with a victory.
The Phillies are 45-25 since snapping a 10-game losing streak April 25 and have the second-highest winning percentage in that span.
Sánchez (11-4) allowed two runs on 10 hits, bouncing back from a career-worst outing against Kansas City. Jonathan Bowlan threw a hitless eighth, and Jhoan Duran had a 1-2-3 ninth for his 24th save.
Trea Turner’s sacrifice fly got the Phillies on the board in the third inning. Derek Hill prevented Zach McKinstry from driving in the tying run with a spectacular diving catch.
Realmuto had a two-run double in the fourth to extend the lead.
ORIOLES 6, ROYALS 1
BALTIMORE (AP) — Kyle Bradish gave up one run and two hits in 6 2/3 innings, Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer, and Baltimore beat Kansas City.
Bradish (6-9) did not give up a hit until had Jac Caglianone hit a leadoff single in the seventh inning to break up the no-hitter bid. He struck out five and walked two to help Baltimore clinch the series.
Coby Mayo, Taylor Ward and Gunnar Henderson also hit home runs for Baltimore, which has won three-straight games for the eighth time this season.
Alonso broke the game open with a 420-foot shot in the fourth inning to gave Baltimore a 3-0 lead. He finished the night 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Mayo tacked on one in the fifth, hitting his 12th homer of the season into the left-field seats.
Ward added his first home run at Camden Yards this season in the sixth inning before Henderson capped the scoring with his first long ball since June 19 on the first pitch of his at bat in the eighth.
CARDINALS 4, BRAVES 1
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Lars Nootbaar hit a three-run home run and later scored a run, leading St. Louis to a victory over Atlanta.
Matthew Liberatore (5-6) allowed four hits over six scoreless innings, striking out six on 71 pitches. A double play helped him escape a sixth-inning jam with runners on first and third.
Riley O’Brien earned his 24th save in 28 chances despite allowing two baserunners in the ninth.
Reynaldo Lopez (4-2) made his fourth start since rejoining Atlanta’s rotation on June 26. He allowed four runs on five hits.
The Cardinals are 5-5 in their last 10 games. St. Louis has won four of five games against the Braves this season and clinched its second season series against Atlanta since 2018.
Atlanta has lost five of its last seven games.
ASTROS 9, RANGERS 3
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Yordan Alvarez had another moonshot for his AL-leading 31st home run, LaMonte Wade Jr. hit his first career grand slam and Houston beat Texas.
The Astros led for good after Alvarez, also the AL leader with 70 RBIs, hit a two-run homer 425 feet to straightaway center in the first inning, a night after a towering 455-foot blast pulled to right in the series opener. The American League All-Star starting designated hitter is one behind National League All-Star DH Kyle Schwarber for the major league lead in homers.
Peter Lambert (8-5) pitched three-hit ball over six innings while striking out seven and walking one. The right-hander, who didn’t make the Astros roster out of spring training, is 6-1 with a 2.84 ERA over his last nine starts.
Ezequiel Durán homered twice for the AL West-leading Rangers (48-47). He had a solo shot off Lambert in the fourth, and added a two-run homer in the ninth.
Wade’s slam in the second was his 57th career homer and his second in nine games with the Astros (47-50). Christian Vázquez went deep leading off the third to make it 7-0, when they already had eight of their 10 hits.
CUBS 5, REDS 3
CINCINNATI (AP) — Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Chicago rallied for a victory over Cincinnati.
Michael Busch had three hits and Carson Kelly also went deep for the Cubs, who improved to 3-2 on their six-game trip before the All-Star break.
All of Cincinnati’s runs came via the long ball as Nathaniel Lowe, Eugenio Suárez and JJ Bleday homered. The Reds fell to 6-21 against NL Central teams.
Drew Pomeranz (2-3), the second of six Chicago pitchers used, got the win. Trent Thornton came in with two outs in the ninth and runners at the corners to get Sal Stewart to hit into a game-ending ground out for his third save.
Bregman was in a 2-for-18 slump before he connected on a sweeper from Julian Garcia (0-2) and drove it down the left-field line to put the Cubs back on top. Seiya Suzuki drew a walk to lead off the inning.
