Congress’ border deal talks might be ongoing, but in one essential area, legislators are moving backward: The ‘Dreamers,’ undocumented immigrants who came to this country as children, have been left out of the conversation.

Since the first version of the DREAM Act was introduced almost a quarter-century ago, support for the young people who are Americans in every sense but the legal one has been a bright spot of bipartisanship amid acrimony. Almost every immigration compromise that legislators have contemplated has included a pathway to citizenship for these 3 million or so individuals — including a 2022 framework constructed by Sens. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), who was a Democrat at the time. Yet, today, as lawmakers scramble to secure the votes for a package focused on security and asylum, the issue has scarcely been mentioned. Meanwhile, trouble in the courts leaves the fate of the Dreamers as uncertain as ever.

Good morning, Dirk

I have had extensive conversations with Jorg about religion in these pages and privately. They have been respectful, for the most part, and I appreciate that they have been so.

It doesn't take a clinician trained in psychoanalysis to see that someone who appears to have everything on the outside has nothing on the inside.

There is always hope.

Jorg

So, in other words, Ray, you mean it takes religion, or superstition as I and the steadily growing number of non-believers, including all my friends, would call it, to fill your inside, - with something? Wow, what insight you reveal!

But don’t entertain any hope that I’ll eventually abandon non-belief and latch on to something I was never indoctrinated with! Lack of blind trust in a made-up story book has served me just fine so far.

Hello, Jorg

Wow... a response in 24 minutes. That suggests to me that you are still trying to convince yourself that something that is so real is not real. It's real/

Yes, there's always hope. Even Darth Vader came to accept the good and right side of the Force and compared to ol' Anakin... you're a saint! Have a great day, Jorg.

Jorg

No, Ray, I don’t need to convince myself about anything obvious! But I thank you for your somewhat valuable contribution to a more interesting project I’m working on. Sorry about this quick response, - but I have other pressing things to focus on.

This seems analogues to your dad stealing a car and then he gives it you. Are you then entitled to keep the car? It is still a stolen car.

What does the Bible say about ancestors sins?

The Bible speaks of generational sin in Exodus 20:5, which states that "the iniquities of the fathers are visited upon the sons and daughters — unto the third and fourth generation." This concept implies that "unresolved issues get handed down from generation to generation."

Jorg

What biblical nonsense! No sane person believes such made-up, BS!

Lou

Jorg - From some of your previous posts I gather you know a fair amount about the Bible. Perhaps you were very, very, very hurt at some time in your life, and like a small child are trying to hide that deep hurt ... with remarks such as you write about the Bible, God's love, etc.

Jorg

What nonsense, Lou! I have had an extremely lucky and rewarding life, and never had a reason to feel much more hurt than you can reasonably expect in life. I have read the Bible, though, as well as the Quran, - both obviously made-up fantasy books, of course. I didn't even hide the Bible from my kids, but let them have access to it, knowing that they were intelligent enough to realize it is a made-up story book.

Lou - I believe you are onto something with Jorg. There is something alarming about his extreme reactions and mostly irrational or non-sequitur replies. It may be because of a lack of inner peace which is what most religious people have discovered and savor. That makes them balanced and tolerant.

Jorg

Dirk: Not at all an unusual comforting assumption by people who need a made-up story book and a cult leader to make it through what for them seems like a scary life! Not the first time someone who knows next to nothing about me tried to psychoanalyze my inner soul. WHAT a joke! Good luck with your savior, Donald J(esus) Trump!

Not So Common

Any and all immigrants who entered the USA illegally should never be allowed or able to become American citizens. They are criminals and bypassed many honorable immigrants who waited their turn to gain entrance to this great country. Let's make America great again by making all immigrants, democrat politicians, republican politicians & criminals etc... follow the rule of law.
