In the Feb. 14 edition of the Daily Journal, Mervyn Danker claims the paper is publishing Hamas propaganda and failing to include the Israeli Defense Force’s perspective, citing the article “Israel strikes across Gaza, killing 24.” What he omits is that the full headline continues: “and says militants attacked its soldiers.” Well this is unexpected — the guy trying to claim that the Associated Press’ coverage of an Israeli airstrike that killed two babies is propaganda didn’t tell the whole truth. GASP. How shocking? The IDF’s position is not only included — it is featured in the title itself.
Reading further into the article, the IDF’s stated justification for violating the ceasefire yet again is clearly presented. It says militants attacked its soldiers, prompting the response. To dismiss the piece as propaganda while ignoring the inclusion of Israel’s explanation is misleading.
It is also worth noting that the IDF’s account comes directly from an Israeli military source, while reports of Palestinian civilian casualties — including two babies — come from the hospital that received the victims. Readers are capable of evaluating both claims. If one is quick to label one side’s account as propaganda, intellectual consistency demands applying the same scrutiny across the board.
The mental gymnastics done by those who turn a blind eye and are so willfully ignorant to the obvious war crimes committed by Israel amazes me.
Hilarious. Hey Mr. Aguilar, speaking of mental gymnastics, it must take quite an effort to completely forget that Hamas started the war by attacking Israel. As such, nobody can fault Israel for anything occurring after Hamas’ treachery. Hamas is getting what they deserve. Simple. No mental gymnastics needed.
